Social Thinking Products for All Ages
The Zones of Regulation Series—helping
students worldwide for over 15 years!
The Zones of Regulation framework, created by Leah Kupyers, is an empowering instructional tool
to build safe, supportive environments that foster learning and well-being for all. Learners benefit
from increased self-awareness and social emotional skills and learn a common language for
communication, problem solving, and emotional understanding.
The Zones of Regulation ofers a unique and systematic approach to help unpack some of the
complexity of regulation and build the capacity to recognize when we’re in diferent physiological
and emotional states, as well as pair tools that support regulation of that state. We call these states
“The Zones,” with each of the Zones represented by a distinct color. We categorize all the diferent
ways we feel—including our feelings, energy levels, and states of alertness—into four colored
zones. Using the four Zones, we can establish an easy language with visual supports and structure
that not only help build competencies to self-regulate but also co-regulate with others.
The Blue Zone describes low states of alertness and down feelings, such as when we feel
sad, tired, hurt, sick, lonely, or bored.
The Green Zone describes a calm state of alertness. We might be feeling happy, focused,
content, peaceful, calm, or relaxed when in the Green Zone.
The Yellow Zone describes when our energy is higher and emotions get a little stronger,
and we might need to take action to regulate. We might be experiencing stress, frustration,
anxiety, excitement, silliness, the wiggles, or nervousness when in the Yellow Zone.
The Red Zone describes extremely high energy and intense feelings. We might be feeling
elated, overjoyed, euphoric, angry, panicked, devastated, terrified, or out of control when in
the Red Zone.

The Road to Regulation & The Regulation Station:
Understanding and Managing Feelings & Emotions
(two-storybook set)
Leah Kuypers, Elizabeth Sautter
Come along with Gabriel, Suhana, Julian, and Vivian as they begin their journey on The Road to
Regulation and discover tools and strategies for regulation and emotional control at the amazing
Regulation Station.
These two multiple award-winning storybooks provide engaging social scenarios and strategies
to help children at developmental ages 5-11 explore how lessons from The Zones of Regulation
framework and curriculum can be used at school and at home. Kids love stories and will identify
with the characters and the everyday situations as they learn about their feelings and emotions
and how their bodies help show and tell them what they are feeling. Readers will also learn
along with the characters that they can manage and control how they feel by using tools—such
as movement, activities, and art—to relax, focus, and stay calm so they can meet their goals and
needs of the day.
The first storybook, The Road to Regulation, describes and explains four diferent emotional
zones and how we feel in each of them. Through an imaginary adventure to “The Regulation
Station,” the second storybook introduces the use of “tools” (strategies) to help students identify
ways they can manage their diferent feelings at school and home.
